Description

The renovation project of the historic building at Via Carducci 16 in Udine stems from the desire to preserve the identity of the past while projecting it into a new contemporary era. The building, an elegant example of early 20th-century Liberty architecture, retains its original façade as a witness to time, while the interiors are completely redesigned to meet the needs of modern living.
The intervention unfolds through a continuous dialogue between memory and transformation. The redefinition of the common areas and six apartments, including two attic duplexes, results in an architecture that enhances comfort without sacrificing the building’s historical character. Materials and design solutions reinterpret the Liberty style in a contemporary key, creating sophisticated and harmonious environments.
The building’s atrium becomes a narrative element, a place where tradition intertwines with modernity. The floor, inspired by a famous design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, comes alive through a refined composition of travertine, Verde Alpi marble inserts, and apricot orange back-painted glass. The entrance door and the carriage gate echo the same decorative pattern, playing with warm-toned wood veneers and glass inserts that interact with natural light.
The apartments, designed to ensure maximum flexibility of the spaces, feature high-quality finishes that recall the building’s historic identity: natural wood flooring, terrazzo, and travertine create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
