Today, the term “navigate” carries a dual meaning: on one hand, navigation by sea, and on the other, digital exploration. Two vast worlds full of mystery, so distant yet so similar. This duality takes shape in the reinterpretation of the sail, a key element characterizing the polycarbonate cladding of the port buildings. The sails, light and recyclable, reflect the sea and seem to be in constant motion, embracing the space with fluid geometries.
The intervention focuses on enhancing the existing structure through an elevated walkway among trees and bodies of water, designed according to the principles of “design for all.” A color code guides visitors: red for ramps and entrances, blue for rest areas. This system ensures an inclusive experience and immediate spatial understanding.
We chose to preserve all the port buildings, aligning with an upcycling and sustainability approach. The new polycarbonate claddings define courtyards intended for open-air markets and bookcrossing spaces, while a new floor atop the central building houses a panoramic viewpoint offering a privileged view of the sea.
A distinctive feature is the “Music Walk”: iron arms extending from the cliff transmit the sound of the waves to the elevated path, creating a sensory dialogue with the sea. This public space fosters interaction between the marine landscape and visitors, offering an intimate and participatory experience.
The exploration continues inside with a “submerged” restaurant, composed of micro-capsules enclosed by semi-transparent curtains. The floor echoes the tones of sand, while the undulating mirrored ceiling reflects the movement of water, evoking the atmosphere of the seabed. A floating walkway completes the route, leading to three platforms: a water-side path, a red diving platform, and a relaxation area with a small garden and white tents.
At night, the port transforms through video mapping, projecting images onto the translucent claddings, while an open-air cinema enriches the experience with moments of sharing and entertainment.
