Description

The design of this apartment aimed to unify two separate levels—originally connected only by an external staircase—into a single, fluid and harmonious home. The new layout places the living area and kitchen on the ground floor, while the bedrooms are located in the semi-basement. A complex challenge, compounded by limited natural light and an inefficient internal layout.
The intervention began with the demolition of internal partitions and removal of existing finishes, opting for continuous flooring throughout to create spatial cohesion and a visual connection between the living room and outdoor patio. This generated an open, airy environment in constant dialogue with the exterior.
A new internal staircase, hidden behind an oak wood slatted screen with adjustable louvers, connects the two levels. This dynamic divider separates the living room from the kitchen while maintaining visual openness and light flow. The adjustable slats allow for privacy and light control, adapting the space as needed.
The custom-designed kitchen is the project’s chromatic and material core. Oak base units are paired with lacquered fronts in two shades of blue and a Fenix worktop, creating a refined yet essential look. Glossy sapphire-blue handles, arranged asymmetrically, introduce a playful accent that gives the interiors a distinctive character.
The compact, windowless bathrooms were entirely reconfigured. Grid-patterned tiles in two formats and bold color combinations—blue and mustard for the guest bath, green and terracotta for the master—paired with contrasting grout, give each space a strong graphic identity. The project balances functionality and aesthetics, with a consistent palette of materials and colors that unifies the entire home.
